Lorin Maazel and the Castelton Theatre House

RCM performers head to the US

This summer 12 RCM musicians (11 current students and 1 recent alumnus) will be heading over to Washington D.C. to play for one of the world's great conductors. Lorin Maazel will conduct the students in two operas by RCM alumnus Benjamin Britten as part of the Chateauville Foundation Castleton Festival.

This trip follows on from a visit last year to perform Albert Herring. Maestro Maazel was so impressed with the standard of playing that he has invited the students back again to revive the work, and also to perform in a new production of The Turn of the Screw. In addition to all this, they will also be performing in two symphonic concerts.

The students fly out on the 27 June and return on the 21 of July. Their flights, accommodation on Maestro Maazel’s ranch and all food are being paid for by the Chateauville Foundation.

The students are as follows:

Benjamin MacDougall (flute)
Fraser Kelman (oboe)
Christopher Stripp (clarinet)
Amy Harman (bassoon)
Samuel Pearce (horn)
Katerina Mitchell and Rachel Kisacanin (violin)
Lukas Kmitt (viola)
Frederique Legrand (cello)
Edmund Hartzell (double bass)
Oliver Lowe (percussion)
Daniel De-Fry (harp)

Horn player Sam Pearce will be writing regular reports during the trip for the RCM website, so watch this space!
